Hey Viola!
(The Viola Desmond Project)
“I don't want to set the world on fire… I just want to start a flame in your heart”
Who is Viola Desmond? Now we recognize her as the woman on our new ten dollar bill... But who was she, really?
In 1946, a successful Canadian business woman, chose to sit in the whites only section of Nova Scotia’s, Roseland theatre. She knew there would be consequences… but not like that. The dynamic and inspirational music of her era filled the life and home of this now civil rights icon. In Hey, Viola!, songstress and performer, Krystal Dos Santos, with the support of Steve Charles on bass and Alex Ward on piano, brings the life of Viola Desmond to the stage. In this new cabaret, brilliant hits like Feeling Good, Sinnerman, Smile, and Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, give audiences an opportunity to discover, how the actions of one woman, played such a huge role in a movement that Krystle herself continues today.
