T(w)o New Heights A Kamloops Symphony Concert Experience
The symphony caps off their imaginative season with two locally inspired creations and a pair of elevating classics. We begin with the lively, energetic, and playful songs of Francis Poulenc’s Le bal masqué, sung by Kamloops’ own Alan Corbishley. Next is a re-imagining of Katia Makdissi-Warren’s Whispers of the Mountain, an immersive collaboration with Secwepemc artist Csetkwe first premiered by the KSO last season. Continuing with the local influences is the premiere of the newly commissioned work Still by Kamloops-born composer Stacey Brown. Taking inspiration from the physicality of breathing, the music is an introspective contemplation of evolving experiences of time and isolation. The performance concludes with Aaron Copland’s much beloved Appalachian Spring, capturing the elements of North American pioneer life in music.
