Kamloops Players Ignite their 1st Annual Fall into Drama with “Gas Light” Production

The Kamloops Players Society is proudly presenting their *Fall into Drama* production of “Gas Light”, written by Patrick Hamilton. “Gas Light” is a dark tale of a man bent on driving his wife insane. He fills their marriage with lies and deception that masks more sinister motives. This show was originally set for production pre-COVID19. The Kamloops Players Society is eager to finally present this show, and they will do so at the Pavilion Theatre in downtown Kamloops from November 9-12, 2022.

This poignant 1938 melodrama tells the demoniac story of the Manninghams who live on Angel Street in 19th century London. As the curtain rises, all appears to be the essence of Victorian tranquility. It is soon apparent, however, that Mr. Manningham is slowly driving his gentle devoted wife, Bella, to the edge of insanity. While her husband is out of the house, Mrs. Manningham has an unexpected caller: the amiable, paternal Inspector Rough. Rough ultimately proves to her that her husband is a homicidal maniac, suspected of a murder committed 15 years earlier in the very house they occupy.

‘Gaslighting’, a recently trending term which describes one who manipulates someone by psychological means into questioning their own sanity, derived from this renowned play. Titled “Angel Street” in America, the play remains one of the longest-running non-musicals in Broadway history, with 1,295 total performances. Gas Light is the perfect fall production, re-booting the Kamloops Players on the local theatre scene.

Director Frank Kohlberger says, "I'm delighted to work with a fantastic cast and crew to bring this thrilling and suspenseful story to life, in such an intimate venue here in Kamloops”.

This production would like to thank the Laughing Stock Theatre Society for their generous support and resources.
